Vice President of EBRD: Georgia is the best Performer among Countries of Economic Reforms in their Second Wave
"Georgia is the best performer among the countries of economic reforms in their second wave. We are very pleased with the reforms, continued reforms that the country has been going through" said Jürgen Rigterink, First Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) at a meeting with Giorgi Gakharia, Prime Minister of Georgia today.
Head of Government of Georgia met Vice Presidents of the EBRD: Messrs. Jürgen Rigterink and Alain Pilloux within the scope of the World Economic Forums (WEF) in Davos 2020.
In the opinion of the Prime Minister of Georgia, EBRD is a strong supporter of the development agenda in Georgia and the Government highly appreciates its productive cooperation.
It was noted at the meeting that Georgia is one of the largest recipients of investments from EBRD, while its diversified portfolio, ranging all the way from energy to agriculture, opens up significant opportunities for development of the country.
Role of the EBRD was stressed at the meeting in the development of a National Strategy on Energy Efficiency in Georgia, along with its significant contribution in the education sector. Reform in the latter is one of the key priorities of the Government of Georgia. It was noted at the meeting that increased access to finance is vital for the inclusive economy and private sector in sound performance. Parties believe that Investors Council established with support of the EBRD aims to support the private sector development, as it serves as an independent platform of a constructive dialogue between the businesses, international organizations, donors and Government of Georgia.
"I am very proud to say that 2019 was our best year ever in Georgia. We invested almost 300 million and have a portfolio of about a billion now. This makes us quite unique. Almost 70% is in the private sector. The cooperation is obviously very good. We are very pleased with the reforms, continued reforms that country has been going through" noted Jürgen Rigterink, First Vice President of the EBRD after his meeting the Prime Minister of Georgia.
Meeting was attended by Ivane Matchavariani, Minister of Finance of Georgia and Beka Liluashvili, Adviser to the Prime Minister of Georgia on Economic Affairs.
