Unemployment Rate Increased in Georgia, Reaching 22.1%
Unemployment rate has risen in Georgia. According to the data of the second quarter of 2021, it reaches 22.1%, which is an increase of 3.8 percentage points compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
According to Geostat, the labor force (economically active population) in the reporting period accounted for 51.4% of the working age population (15 years and older), 1.1 percentage points more than in the same period in 2020. The employment rate is reduced by 1 percentage point to 40.1%.
The level of employment decreased by 0.5 percentage points in urban-type settlements and by 1.7 percentage points in rural-type settlements.
The share of employees in the second quarter of 2021 was 68.5% of the total number of employees, which is 0.7 percentage points more compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
Unemployment is traditionally higher among men than women. In the second quarter of 2021, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the rate increased by 1.2 percentage points for women and by 5.7% for men.
The level of labor force participation (activity level) is higher in men than in women. In the second quarter of 2021, the figure was 40.7 percent for women and 63.7 percent for men. Compared to the same period of the previous year, the level of labor force participation (activity level) increased by 0.3 percentage points for women and by 2.0 percentage points for men.
