Twenty-Four Georgian Wine Producers Showcase Their Wines at VieVinum 2026 in Vienna
With the support of Georgia’s National Wine Agency and the Embassy of Georgia in the Republic of Austria, 24 Georgian wine producers and wineries participated in the international wine exhibition VieVinum in Vienna.
VieVinum is one of Austria’s leading international wine exhibitions, held since 1998. The event takes place every two years at the historic Hofburg Palace in Vienna and brings together wine producers, industry experts, trade representatives, and wine enthusiasts from major wine-producing countries around the world.
Notably, this year marked Georgia’s first participation in the exhibition, where the country was featured as a “Special Guest.” Under this status, Georgia was provided with dedicated exhibition and tasting areas, offering an exceptional platform to present its unique wine culture and products.
“VieVinum represents another important opportunity to promote Georgian wine and increase its visibility both in Austria and across Europe. This format encourages the exchange of wine cultures and strengthens international business relationships,” said Dea Kerdzevadze, Head of the International Relations Division of the National Wine Agency.
The exhibition’s official opening ceremony featured welcome remarks by founder and organizer Alexandra Graski-Hoffmann, Managing Director of Austrian Wine Marketing Chris Yorke, Georgia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Austria, Alexander Maisuradze, President of the Austrian Winegrowers’ Association Johannes Schmuckenschlager, and Secretary General of Austria’s Ministry of Agriculture Johannes Abentung.
“Wine diplomacy has been one of the most important forms of soft power for centuries and remains so today. It is particularly significant to present Georgian wine culture in Austria—a country that deeply values tradition, culture, and high-quality winemaking,” Ambassador Alexander Maisuradze stated.
As part of the exhibition program, National Wine Agency representative Irakli Cholobargia delivered a presentation on Georgian wine culture, history, and the modern wine industry, followed by a tasting of Georgian wines.
Increasing awareness of Georgian wine and promoting it in international markets remains one of the National Wine Agency’s key priorities. Since 2013, the Agency has actively implemented marketing and promotional campaigns across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, supporting the continued expansion of Georgian wine in global markets.
