Songulashvili: Kutaisi Laboratory Ensures High-Quality Agricultural Research in Western Georgia
Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Davit Songulashvili, along with the Director of the State Agricultural Laboratory, Irakli Guleladze, visited the staff of the Kutaisi Zonal Diagnostic Laboratory.
The Minister toured the facility, which is equipped with modern diagnostic equipment, observed the laboratory operations, and received information about current and future diagnostic methods. Special focus was placed on new testing techniques to be introduced in 2025 — including 15 methods already implemented for fish disease diagnostics.
“International-standard laboratory diagnostics are a vital component of agricultural development. The Kutaisi Zonal Diagnostic Laboratory provides high-quality research support for agriculture in western Georgia and plays a significant role in the region’s development. Strengthening regional laboratory services remains a top priority, as it is essential for producing safe and healthy agricultural products,” stated Minister Songulashvili.
According to Irakli Guleladze, Director of the State Agricultural Laboratory, the facility is expanding both in terms of its diagnostic capabilities and technical infrastructure. New modern testing disciplines are planned to be added, which will further strengthen the lab's operations and enhance diagnostic services in western Georgia. The laboratory’s main functions include diagnosing animal diseases — especially those related to high-risk pathogens — and conducting food and drinking water safety tests.
The Minister was accompanied by MP Zviad Shalamberidze, who represents Tkibuli, Terjola, Zestaponi, and Baghdati in Parliament; Deputy Ministers Kakhaber Kakabadze and Solomon Pavliashvili; and Imereti State Representative Levan Zalkaliani.
