Sandro Rakviashvili: Electricity Imports Tariffs should Be Publicized
Electricity imports tariffs should be publicized to make an adequate comparison of which tariffs are more profitable and affordable and whether electricity imports are more favorable for Georgia or implementing domestic energy projects, Girchi political party representatives Sandro Rakviashvili told Girchi TV.
“In order to determine whether this or that project is profitable or not, we should know how much electricity imports cost. We are assured that imports are much cheaper compared to the domestic generation. Though, it turned out that electricity imports tariffs vary for 24 hours and this is confidential information.
As a member of the parliament, I have sent a question to Electricity System Commercial Operator (ESCO) – this is the operator that has directly engaged in this process and we asked how much electricity imports cost in various periods of the day: in the evening, in the afternoon, over weekends and so on,” Rakviashvili noted. It is unclear why we should implement projects that we are obliged to subsidize for 15 years, Sandro Rakviashvili asked. “Not this or that specific project, but the system entirely becomes a problem, when certain unjustified projects are implemented referring to various motives and certain confidential information at the expense of taxpayers. We should hold substantial discussions on why this technically unimportant information stays classified, while this information enables to adequately assess this or that project. I will publicize this information (abroud imports prices) in a week. Why in a week? Because I hope that within this one week my colleagues in the parliament or ESCO or people and companies engaged in this process and owning this information will publicize this information themselves. This would be normal and reasonable step from them”, Rakviashvili said.
