Rustavi Steel and Geosteel to Become Energy Efficient Enterprises

Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Natia Turnava has visited major metallurgical enterprises in Rustavi – Rustavi Steel and Geosteel and received information about their production process.

According to the Ministry of Economy, more than 2500 persons are employed in both enterprises, and the main part of the plant products are exported to foreign markets. 

At this stage, technological re-equipment is underway at the plants, including in terms of protection of ecological standards.

“It is of crucial importance for me to see how the mentioned enterprises are getting ready to become more energy efficient. We have listened to specific plans. Both plants have launched re-equipment process. They will change the technological process to reduce electricity consumption and so on”, Natia Turnava told media agencies.

It is also important that the process of transforming enterprises into energy efficient plants are underway and this is the result of large-scale reforms in our power sector, she added. 

“This is out request. We will not only supervise the process, but also promote enterprises to answer these standards”, Natia Turnava said.
