Record Container Volumes Handled at Poti Sea Port
APM Terminals Poti hit another record year by handling its 500,000 TEU of the year - more than the entire Georgian market has ever done.
This is a great achievement made possible through close cooperation with MTA and our valued customers.
After the record numbers in different areas of Port operation throughout the year, and high volumes in November, we proudly announce that APM Terminals Poti / Poti Sea Port Corporation has just recently reached a new record of 500,318 TEU year to date December 9, 2019. Compared to the same period of last year (11 months), number of handled containers have been risen up with 48%.
Surpassing the previous annual record of 2014 (384,000 TEU) by 30%, this new milestone is a result of the efforts of all employees of Poti Sea Port Corporation as well as the investments and improvements APM Terminals has made since its acquisition in 2011. Support and cooperation with the Maritime Transport Agency has played an important role in achieving such a remarkable result. By simplifying procedures and implementing maritime best practices into Poti Sea Port activities, the Agency has enabled the port to operate more efficiently. These efforts are a testament to the benefits of the private and public sector working towards one goal.
“We are very pleased to see that our continuous efforts of providing an effective and efficient port operations this year has proven successful that we have reached a record of 500.000 TEUs handled. We are running at almost full capacity and our plans for expansion of Poti Port is now the main priority. We see the need for this to happen as soon as possible to the benefit of our customers, Georgian economy and for the whole region”- stated Keld Mosgaard Christensen, Managing Director APM Terminals Poti.
