Lasha Dolidze, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, met with representatives of the aquaculture sector to discuss the current situation and future development prospects. The meeting focused on fish disease management, strengthening laboratory capacities, training specialists, and increasing state support for the aquaculture sector.
“During the meeting with aquaculture sector representatives, key challenges in the field were identified, including water tariffs, the introduction of modern technologies, and laboratory services. We agreed to establish working groups on specific issues and work within defined timelines to achieve effective results,” said Lasha Dolidze.
The discussion also covered new irrigation service tariffs and state subsidy mechanisms. It was noted that a significant portion of water supply costs for fish farms will be financed by the state.
“Gigla Tamazashvili stated that the state will subsidize 80% of water supply costs for fish farms. If farmers sign agreements with Georgian Amelioration, the company will ensure consistent water delivery and the proper maintenance of relevant infrastructure. At the same time, it is important to ensure the rational use of water resources and improve accounting,” he said.
It is worth noting that the ministry regularly holds meetings with farmers and sector representatives to support the development of aquaculture. To further strengthen the sector, modern methods for studying fish diseases have already been introduced at the State Laboratory of Agriculture of Georgia, enabling timely diagnosis and prevention, and allowing farmers to receive internationally compliant testing results locally.
The meeting was attended by Gigla Tamazashvili, Levan Ujmajuri, Giorgi Iakobashvili, Irakli Guledani, as well as representatives of the ministry and the sector.
