Parliamentary Committee Approves Individual Financing for Cancer Patients in Georgia
The Georgian Parliamentary Committee on Health has approved the request made by cancer patients for individualized financing, according to a recent announcement by the committee's chairman, Zaza Lominadze.
The petition, which was signed by over 6,000 patients and submitted by the patients' coalition "Europa Donna Georgia" and the Caucasian Oncology Society "Hope," demanded the implementation of a system of payment that is adjusted on an individual basis, rather than a standard amount for all cancer patients.
Currently, the state provides a universal healthcare package that includes an oncolimit of 25,000 GEL per year. However, the authors of the petition argue that a universal insurance package with a higher financing limit for cancer treatment should be created in the country. Additionally, the petition highlights the unequal access to treatment for patients living in the regions.
During the committee meeting, Ana Mazanishvili, head of "Europa Donna Georgia," received a promise from the Ministry of Health that patients who require specific and expensive treatment will be given unlimited funding. Furthermore, Lominadze stated that the ministry had already planned to adjust the financing of cancer patients on an individual basis.
The approval of individual financing for cancer patients in Georgia is seen as a significant step in addressing the challenges faced by those with oncological diseases in the country. It is hoped that the implementation of this system will provide fairer and more personalized treatment options for those in need.
