Nino Tandilashvili: Environmental Protection and Climate Policy Are Top Priorities for Georgia’s Sustainable Economic Development

Nino Tandilashvili, First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, and Lasha Dolidze, Deputy Minister, met with Drazen Kutzen, Head of the Urban and Water Management Sector of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), to discuss Georgia’s climate policy priorities and sustainable development goals.

The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in the areas of climate change mitigation, environmental protection, and green economic growth.

“Georgia continues to implement reforms in the fields of environmental protection and climate change, in line with the EU Association Agreement. In this process, it is essential to mobilize investments, strengthen institutional coordination, and apply international best practices,” said Tandilashvili.
“To achieve sustainable development, we must adopt and implement a long-term, effective environmental and climate policy. The Ministry is ready to work closely with AIIB experts to develop a comprehensive policy document that will serve as a roadmap for Georgia’s green transformation.”

The meeting also addressed the importance of attracting investment in the environmental sector and developing projects aimed at the sustainable management of soil and water resources.

“At this stage, our focus includes key areas such as energy efficiency programs, coastal resilience, smart agriculture, sustainable irrigation, and land and forest resource management. These sectors are critical for the successful implementation of our climate policy. It is essential to align these areas with our shared goals,” stated Drazen Kutzen.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, was also attended by Elene Ghubianuri, Head of the National Environmental Agency, and representatives from relevant departments.
