New Multimodal Carbamide Terminal Opened in Batumi Seaport

“Implementation of the Multimodal Carbamid Terminal project in the Batumi Seaport as is another confirmation of the fact that we already are a very strong regional logistics hub,” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development stated at the opening of the new terminal in Batumi.

Central and local government representatives and project investors together with the representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia, business sector and the public attended the opening event. The President of Trammo Edward Weiner and the Deputy Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Rakhimov, who was paying a working visit to Georgia, also attended the opening ceremony of the terminal.

Natia Turnava congratulated the audience on the successful implementation of this important project. The Minister highlighted that the new terminal will process and transport 1 500 000 tons of mineral fertilizers a year.

The investors of the new multimodal terminal in Batumi port are the American corporation Trammo and the Wondernet Exspress Investment Group. The total investment to the project amounted to 25 million USD.

The Minister noted that the project is very important, first of all because it was built and completed in the conditions of the global pandemic, when the world and Georgian economies were in the most difficult situation, and its importance even increases since it is an international, global investment project.

Natia Turnava also emphasized that the implementation of a project of this scale once again proves the role and the function of Georgia as a strong regional logistics hub.

“The project is a synergy of American, Uzbek and Georgian investments, which means that Georgia, and in particular, the port of Batumi, as a gateway to this region, has always played and will continue to play an important role in terms of connecting European and Asian, Western and Eastern markets. This is an example of the fact that we are already a very strong regional logistics hub. This means that cargo from Central Asia via Azerbaijan through the port of Batumi and the capacity created here will be distributed throughout the world - to the United States, Europe, Africa, Australia,” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development stated.
