Nepalese Government Delegation to Study Georgia’s Energy Reform

The governmental delegation of Nepal, which is paying a visit to Georgia with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), will become acquainted with the current energy market reforms and energy infrastructure in Georgia.

The first information meeting was held at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia today. 

The Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Davit Tvalabeishvili and the USAID Mission Director in Georgia, Peter Wibler, also delivered a welcome speech at the meeting. The Nepalese delegation is being headed by the Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Tojanath Adhikar. It also includes the representatives of the Nepalese energy sector.

According to the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Davit Tvalabeishvili, the Nepalese delegation will become acquainted with the energy sector regulatory basis, as well as hold meetings with the representatives of the public and private energy sectors of Georgia. “We are very hopeful that Georgia's experience will greatly help our Nepalese colleagues in their work, especially, when it comes to the energy market reforms, which should significantly increase the competitiveness of Georgia's energy sector,” - the Deputy Minister said. 

With the support of the USAID-Funded Nepal Hydropower Development Project, the government of Nepal contacted the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia giving the possibility to the stakeholders in the Nepalese energy sector to pay an educational exchange visit to Georgia.

As per the USAID Mission Director in Georgia, Peter Wibler, Georgia has made a remarkable progress in this sector, especially, in terms of the market regulation, over the last decade and in this respect, the Nepalese visitors can learn a lot from Georgians, however, Georgia can also share the experience of its Nepalese counterparts. 

The Nepalese delegation will stay in Georgia until December 7. The issues related to attraction of foreign direct investments in the energy sector, facilitation of cross-border trade and development of the regional electricity market will also be discussed at the meetings that are to be held in Georgia.
