Mtkvari Protection Day Marked with Water Sampling and Quality Testing

On the occasion of Mtkvari Protection Day, specialists from the National Environmental Agency collected water samples from the Mtkvari River.

The physical and chemical parameters of the samples were measured on site. Further analysis of organic and inorganic pollutants, as well as heavy metals, will be conducted at the Agency's accredited laboratory for atmospheric air, water, and soil analysis. Equipped with modern, high-precision analytical instruments, the laboratory will release the results in the coming days.

The National Environmental Agency conducts regular monitoring of the Mtkvari River basin’s water quality at 67 points annually. The findings are published on the Agency’s official website.

Mtkvari Protection Day was established in 1999 by the "Mtkvari-Araks" coalition and is observed in Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.

The Mtkvari is Georgia’s most significant river. Its basin spans northeastern Turkey, central and eastern Georgia, nearly all of Azerbaijan and Armenia, and northwestern Iran. The total basin area is 188,000 square kilometers, and the river stretches 1,515 kilometers in length.
