March Records 23% Upturn in Electricity Imports
According to the information by Electricity Market Operator (ESCO), in March 2019, electricity imports to Georgia rose by 23%, as compared to the same period of 2018 and the total imports constituted 208.869 million kw/h.
According to ESCO report, the country imported 64.778 million kw/h of electricity from Russia and 144.091 million kw/h electricity from Azerbaijan.
It is worth noting that electricity imports were not carried out from Russia in 2018 and the country attracted required volume of resource from Azerbaijan and Turkey.
We remind you that starting February 27, for a period of one moth, the invaded region of Abkhazia was receiving electricity from Russian Federation after the water level in Enguri HPP fell to critical margin and electricity generation became insufficient.
