Levan Davitashvili: "There is no Problem in the Purchases or Supply of Wheat Products, there is no Delay in the Delivery of Wheat "

“At present, global trade flows are changing, which is mainly caused by trade restrictions and not by shortages of food supplies. A number of countries have currently imposed restrictions, including the Eurasian Union, although, some restrictions are mostly related to the export of cereal products, different types of vegetables, essential personal hygiene products and medical supply. A month ago, we announced, that we were expecting a crisis and started looking for alternative sources to diversify and ensure a steady supply of essential goods and products in the country.

Wheat is one of the high-demand products. Russia has imposed restrictions on different products, including wheat. The limits are currently imposed and quotas are introduced on the export of wheat / flour .

However, Russian private companies and major exporters declare, that there are more than enough supplies of wheat in Russia, besides, Russia  is expecting a new harvest of wheat crop this year. Overall, there is a surplus of wheat on the global market as well as in the region.

Therefore, we think, that prices will not rise, but might even drop. The trade restriction is imposed on some products, although, we still fulfill those contracts, under which, sufficient supply of wheat will be ensured in the country, however, in case of stricter restrictions imposed  on the export (which has no rational basis or explanation due to plentiful harvest), we have an access to alternative supplies for replenishing food supplies as well.

Ultimately, continuous delivery of bread, which is an essential part of the human diet will be ensured to population at reasonable prices. I reiterate, that  there is no problem in the supply or purchases of wheat products, there is no delay in the delivery of wheat " said Levan Davitashvili, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.
