''Unfortunately, the generation is overloaded with increased consumption and we have to eliminate that. The ultimate goal is that Georgia should be an exporter of electricity, mainly renewable electricity,'' - the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Levan Davitashvili said at a briefing after the government session.
According to him, the development of a plan for investments in the construction of hydropower plants in Georgia will be completed in a few days and the specific conditions will be known to the public.
"We have also made some outlines with the EU Energy Union. You know that we are a member of the Energy Union and therefore major energy reforms should be in line with the positions that Europe has and we are moving closer to our policies. Therefore, they have already shared our internal projects. We will need some days for the society to see the specific conditions of these new initiatives, "- said Davitashvili.
According to the Minister of Economy, the Namakhvani HPP project should be finally built.
"As for Namakhvani, it is unfortunate that we are actually talking about the delay of another project, and this, unfortunately, is probably a shared responsibility by many different parties. It was the lack of communication, including on the part of the investor, that was, of course, I think, the excessive and somewhat irresponsible actions of some groups, which also had a negative impact on the continuation of the project and posed some risks to the Georgian state in this regard.
However, I think that eventually this project should be implemented, but implemented properly. We need to have better communication with the population," the minister said.
