Kutaisi International Airport has achieved a remarkable third-place ranking among 450 European airports in the January rating by the Airports International Council (ACI), according to Irakli Karkashadze, General Director of the Georgian Airports Association.
The significant increase in passenger traffic in 2023, reaching nearly 1.7 million passengers, elevated Kutaisi International Airport from a small to a medium-sized airport category in the international rankings. "With the updated classification by ACI, medium-sized airports now include those serving 1 to 10 million passengers annually. This classification applies to 450 airports across Europe. In 2023, Kutaisi Airport's nearly 1.7 million passengers not only set a new record for our airport but also gained international recognition," stated Irakli Karkashadze.
The ACI's 2023 report highlighted Davit Agmashenebeli International Airport as one of the airports that demonstrated significant growth. According to the report, passenger flow at Kutaisi Airport saw a 91% increase compared to pre-pandemic levels, ranking it fourth among European airports before transitioning into the medium-sized airport category. This category encompasses ACI member airports that accommodate 1 to 10 million passengers annually.
