John Braekeveldt: Freight Traffic between Europe and Georgia should Be Simplified

Logistics Hub – Georgia – this project is being discussed in Georgia 10 years ago, but no real steps have been taken yet, John Braekeveldt, chairman of the Board of European Business Association Georgia (EBA Georgia), noted.

With the multiyear experience of doing business in Georgia, John Braekeveldt stresses that cargo transportation from Georgia is very expensive. It is necessary that Europe and Georgia simplify the freight traffic, he added. “The key challenge for me, as a logistics company is that cargo transportation from Georgia to Europe is very expensive. Why? Because different documentations are required and collecting transportation documents is very expensive”, Braekeveldt told Business Partner. There is a project that will expectedly come into force in 2021, after which Georgian drivers will be able to work with the so-called T1 transit documents and they will not need special documents on borders, he said. “T1 document will enable exporters to transport cargo to Europe on cost-effective conditions”, Braekeveldt noted.
