Initiative at Greenhouse in Samtredia Brings Fresh Vegetables to Georgia

A greenhouse in a small city of Samtredia, western Georgia, grows tomatoes, cucumbers and lettuce in water.

Hydroponic farming was an obvious choice for the Imereti Greenery for its resource efficiency, high level of control and high yields.

However, the company needed to grow to meet all the needs of fresh vegetable lovers in Georgia, and a joint initiative of the EBRD and the European Union helped the company to expand its greenhouse capacity and purchase new equipment.

The EU4Business-EBRD Credit Line is a regional initiative which runs in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. The initiative helps small and medium-sized enterprises to boost production locally and trade with confidence internationally.
