IMF Mission Visits Georgia
The IMF Mission is having a 2-week visit to Georgia to prepare the 4th review of the program under the extended financing mechanism of the IMF. Mercedes Vera-Martin is leading the Mission.
Deputy Ministers of Economy and Sustainable Development, Ekaterine Mikabadze and Akaki Saghirashvili, the CEO of Georgian Energy Development Fund Giorgi Chikovani and the IMF Resident Representative in Georgia, Francois Painchaud also attended the meeting.
Georgia’s economic indicators, ongoing and upcoming reforms, as well as the external challenges of Georgia in respect of the recession in the region were discussed at the meeting.
Special attention was paid to the advance indicator of the economic growth in March 2019, which amounted to 6%. The IMF has positively evaluated this indicator and expressed hope that the current economic policy and the course of the reforms will ensure the inclusive growth of the country.
Reforms implemented within the International Monetary Fund Program and the results achieved, as well as the current regulatory reform of the energy market in Georgia allowing for establishing of additional market mechanisms we also covered during the conversation.
