Hazelnuts Exports Double in January-April
After the 3-year collapse, hazelnuts exports keep growing for the second year. Namely, in January-April Georgia exported hazelnuts of $31 million to foreign markets, up 109% year on year.
The ratio of hazelnuts in total exports has increased to 2.5% from 1.5%. In 2004, hazelnuts exports were below $18 million, while the figure exceeded $70 million in 2005. In 2005-2016, Georgia’s wine exports constituted only $900 million, while in the same period hazelnuts exports exceeded $1.290 billion.
Hazelnuts market narrowed in 2017-2019 when Asian marmorated stinkbug annihilated the majority of the crops. In the mentioned period, hazelnuts exports dropped 2.5 times. The situation started improving in 2020 and the exports increased by 41%. In January-April 2021, exports growth constituted 109%. Besides hazelnuts, wine exports essentially increased by 21% to $67 million.
