Government Allocates 4 million GEL for Technical Assistance of Farmers

Government of Georgia has approved a new program to ensure co-funding of mechanization process for farmers in Georgia.

Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze noted at today’s briefing that in 2018 exports volume in agriculture sector rose to 1 billion USD and the government support to the sector increased further.

According to the Agriculture Minister, the budget of the 2019 technical assistance program is 4 million GEL, but along with the program implementation, it is possible to grow the budget through donations.

“In February 2018 the Government started funding mechanization process, as part of agro leasing and agrocredit format, but we see that a number of directions are required to ensure access to equipment, including grant component.

We have taken a decision to ensure 50% grant funding as part of the new program. Maximum limit of agriculture equipment is determined by 150 000 GEL.

150 000 GEL will be top amount that beneficiary farmers will receive. The farmers wishing to participate in the program, should have been registered in the electronic registry of farmers”, Agriculture Minister Levan Davitashvili noted.
