Georgia’s Hospital Sector is Misbalanced – Davit Sergeenko’s Unfulfilled Mission
The hospital's sector of Georgia is misbalanced, the former Health Minister Davit Sergeenko noted and he could not tackle this problem for many years.
The question is of misbalance between state and private clinics. This problem should be resolved necessarily, he said. “Such precedent does not exist anywhere. I do not object to the private sector, but such misbalance is met nowhere. I mean that 90% of clinics are privately-owned and only 10% are state-owned companies. The Netherlands is an exception, where 100% of clinics are privately-owned, including 70% of them are unprofitable.
They are managed by academic circles, universities. I could not change this misbalance», the Parliament’s vice speaker and ex Health Minister David Sergeenko said. We should ensure a balance between private and state clinics to be able to provide an urgent response to the challenges amid pandemics or wartimes, Sergeenko said.
"My statement does not mean that the private industry is bad. No, it is very good, but we should ensure balance. All countries try to maintain control over/third of the industry for similar cases. Pandemic and wartimes always require an urgent response, while the private sector needs long negotiations for operation when time is limited in similar cases”, Davit Sergeenko said.
