Georgia’s Exports to China Triple in 2020

Despite the global economic recession and narrowing international trade, China has become Georgia’s number one export market in 2020.

In January-October 2020, the ratio of goods and services exported to China made up 15.43% in total exports. The value of the exports marked $418.9 million. As for 2019, the ratio of China in Georgia’s total exports amounted to $223.1 million (5.87%).

In the same period, the ratio in trade turnover rose to 10.83%, up 2.75% year on year, as a result of declining imports from China. Namely, in January-October 2020, China’s imports to Georgia constituted $572.9 million, that is, 8.89% in total imports, while the 2019 imports marked $721.2 million, a 9.34% ratio in Georgia’s total imports.

Georgia’s real exports to China have increased by 163.8% year on year thanks to copper ores worth $350.1 million in 2020 and $171.6 million in 2019. As for wines, Georgia exports wines of $10.9 million (2,824,772 liters) to China in 2020. The item’s ratio is 2.6% in Georgia’s total exports to China.
