Georgian Representative Vasil Basiladze Appointed Senior Advisor to WOAH Regional Office for Europe

Vasil Basiladze, a Georgian representative, has been appointed as the Senior Advisor to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) Regional Office for Europe. The announcement was made during the 92nd General Session of the WOAH Assembly held in Paris.

During the session, Basiladze expressed gratitude to WOAH Director-General Emmanuel Soberon for the trust placed in him and delivered a presentation outlining the current and future action plans for the region. He addressed pressing challenges in animal health and emphasized the importance of effective disease control.

“Georgia will continue to be actively engaged in implementing the standards set by the organization’s agenda and will take all necessary measures to support the prevention and control of animal diseases in the region,” said Basiladze.

From 2019 to the present, Vasil Basiladze has served as Deputy Head of Georgia’s National Food Agency and is the country’s Chief Veterinarian, as well as Georgia’s official delegate to WOAH. In 2021, he was appointed Secretary General of the WOAH Regional Commission for Europe Bureau and has been elected Vice-President of the Commission twice.

The WOAH European Regional Representation includes 53 countries—ranging from the European Union, the Balkans, and the Caucasus, to Central Asia, the Eurasian Economic Union, Turkey, Israel, and the United Kingdom.

The World Organization for Animal Health has 183 member countries and plays a central role in shaping global veterinary policy, overseeing its implementation, and establishing international standards for the prevention and control of animal diseases. Its work supports global animal health and facilitates safe international trade in animals and animal products.
