Georgian Railway Increases Salaries to 11,000 Employees

JSC Georgian Railway reiterates that the company's management is constantly listening and trying to meet the needs and requirements of its employees. That is why, for the category of employees whose salary does not exceed 1500 GEL, the salary is increased by 10%. That is about GEL 18-20 million annually and at this stage, it is the maximum amount of financial resources that can be found. In addition, all railroads will receive a fixed amount of twice a year as a gift.

Requesting and/or discussing a 50% pay raise is an unrealistic, populist issue, and since every railroader is thoroughly aware of the company's financial position, the statement that about 4800 railroads are preparing to strike are not true. Moreover, the "New Railway Trade Union" brings together about 400 members and has the legitimacy to speak on behalf of the full staff and to launch strikes in the face of unfulfilled demands.

However, there is no precondition for a strike at this stage, as wages rise for the first time in years and the "New Railway Trade Union" itself reports that they will discuss the form and time of the August 10 board meeting.

‘’Let us reiterate that - on any reasonable request, company management negotiates and speaks to employees, though participation in the mediation process for a 50% increase in salaries has made no public announcements in the media space, though it should be noted that Georgian Railway did not receive an official notification on the specific date of the mediation.

We would like to remind you that starting from March 1, 2020, all employees of Georgian Railway, whose salary does not exceed 1500 GEL, will be increased by 10%. In addition, for all railroads, a monetary gift is given twice a year for a fixed amount,’’-said at the company.

The General Director and the management of the Georgian Railways meet regularly with the employees. It was during these meetings that some promises were made, including that wage policies were revised. The Directorate's efforts made it possible to obtain additional reserve funds and meet the needs of the railroads as far as possible.

Georgian Railway constantly cares about improving the conditions of its employees and offer them various social projects in the future.
