Georgian Railway Handled Record Volume of Containers in 1Q19

Georgian Railway transported 18 000 containers in the first quarter of 2019 and this is a record volume, up 31% compared to the first quarter of 2018.

Moreover, growth was recorded in other directions too. As a result, Georgian Railway is regaining the 2015-2016 growth indicators.

The growth is preconditioned by an essential growth in dry cargo traffic and container transportation. Dry cargo of 1.48 million tons was transported in the first quarter of 2019, up 9% year on year. 

Starting 2018 Georgian Railway has been transiting new items, namely, Kazakh grain and coal.

Revenues from cargo transportation has also increased to 2.33 million USD in the first quarter of 2019.
