Georgian Honey Costs Approximately $60 in Arab Countries; Challenges before Georgian Beekeepers

Honey in Arab countries are perceived as liquid gold and Georgian honey costs approximately $60 in these countries, Tamar Kvaratskhelia, founder of Grey Queen company and representative of the Association of Beekeepers noted at the meeting of the parliament’s agrarian committee and added that importers in Arab countries paid much more money for Georgian honey than in Europe.

“At this stage, we sell our product in Arab countries, not in EU, but we plan to enter EU too. Nonetheless, we find Eastern countries more comfortable. We have attended London Festival too, but Arab countries provide more profitable prices. Consumers in Arab countries consider honey as liquid gold and export prices are much higher. The price hits $60 there”, she noted.

As for laboratory tests, many problems were recorded in this regard over the past years, Kvaratskhelia noted. “This year we have no complaints in this regard, but problems remain with money, namely, in terms of sending samples.

The company used to send 174 kg of honey to Doha and we had to provide full laboratory tests and prepare expertise documents. We risked and paid the full amount because the potential investor was very important”, she said. Besides wines, Georgian diplomatic corps in various countries should also popularize Georgian honey, Tamar Kvaratskhelia noted.
