Georgia to Launch Sector Councils for Wheat and Flour Industry Dialogue
“Sectoral councils will be established to strengthen communication in the wheat and flour sector,” said Davit Songulashvili.
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture met with representatives of the Wheat and Flour Producers Association and flour-producing companies.
During the meeting, participants discussed current challenges in the sector, ongoing trends, and future development prospects.
Particular attention was given to supporting the growth of local production, ensuring market stability, and enhancing competitiveness in the wheat sector.
The discussion also focused on farmers’ needs, ways to improve production efficiency, and the further development of state support mechanisms.
According to the Minister, sectoral councils under the Ministry will be established to ensure effective communication with the industry and timely consideration of farmers’ needs.
“Sectoral councils under the Minister will allow us to meet regularly with industry representatives and jointly discuss existing challenges and needs. This format will support sector development, enable timely identification of problems, and facilitate effective decision-making. Wheat production is one of the key directions in agriculture, and it is therefore important that the views of all stakeholders involved in the sector are taken into account,” Davit Songulashvili stated.
Representatives of wheat and flour producers welcomed the initiative, noting that such a format of cooperation would significantly contribute to addressing sectoral challenges.
“We discussed ongoing processes shaped by global trends, which are reflected both in the region and in Georgia, including developments related to the prices of wheat, flour, and bread. It is important to maintain market stability amid these challenges. During the meeting, we presented specific proposals and discussed ways to implement them. We also agreed that the establishment of sectoral councils will serve as an effective platform for regularly addressing problems and identifying solutions,” said Levan Silagava.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, was also attended by Deputy Ministers Lasha Avaliani and Lasha Dolidze, along with heads of relevant agencies.
