Georgia Strengthens EU Ties with Black Sea Submarine Cable Project – Jubo Turashvili

The Black Sea Submarine Cable Project will not only enhance Georgia’s energy infrastructure but will also establish the country as a direct partner of the European Union, according to Jubo Turashvili, Head of the Energy Policy and Investment Projects Department at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development. Speaking on the “Business Partner” program, he emphasized that this initiative is a key step in Georgia’s integration with the EU.

"The Georgian government is making every effort to take meaningful steps toward the European Union. The Black Sea Submarine Cable Project is a strategic, high-level infrastructure initiative that will directly connect Georgia to the EU," Turashvili stated.

He highlighted a recent decision to establish an enterprise in Romania, marking another milestone in the project’s implementation.

"A few years ago, Georgia signed a memorandum of understanding with Azerbaijan, Romania, and Hungary to conduct a feasibility study and launch operations by 2030. This project will enable Georgia—and by extension, the entire South Caucasus region—to integrate with the European electricity system. The decision to establish a joint enterprise in Romania underscores the project’s importance and strengthens Georgia’s ties with the EU," Turashvili added.

As part of the Black Sea Submarine Cable Project, a joint venture has been established among the four participating countries, further solidifying Georgia’s role in regional energy security and its path toward European integration.
