Georgia Holds Sustainable Energy Week to Achieve EU's Climate and Energy Goals
On June 22-26, Georgia is holding a Sustainable Energy Week. This is the way the country is joining a similar EU week in 2006 aimed at exchanging experiences and encouraging new ideas on greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency and renewable energy to achieve the EU’s climate and energy goals.
Natia Turnava, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, highlighted that the development of essential energy is important for Georgia’s energy independence.
“We are pursuing a balanced energy policy in parallel with the construction of new energy infrastructure, support energy efficiency and energy-saving measures as well as the development of alternative energy and the introduction of new European technologies in this regard,” – the Minister noted.
According to Natia Turnava, Georgia, with the support of the European Union and other donors, is implementing the most important energy reform. “We greatly appreciate the support of the European Union and the international donors in the implementation of the energy reforms in Georgia, which aim to improve energy security through harmonization with European legislation, ensure sustainable development using renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, introduce the energy efficiency in household and commercial services, liberalization of the energy market, increase the attractiveness of the sector for the investors, etc.,” – the Minister noted.
The Minister added that the legislation on energy efficiency and renewable energy incentives provides a legal basis for the country’s energy to become more competitive and attractive.
