Georgia Hits Exports Record in July at $540 Million

Exports in July reached a record-high indicator at 540 MLN USD. It was announced by Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia, at the Executive Government Meeting today.

As the Prime Minister noted, the country has increased its exports by almost 40%.

“Export in July reached a record-high indicator at 540 MLN USD. If we compare this indicator with the previous year, we realize that it has increased by 40%. I also wish to say that it is a record-high indicator compared to July of the previous year, as well as all other months. In total, exports in January-July increased by almost 37% and amounted to over 3 BLN USD. We have a rise in imports as well and the total turnover in trade reaching almost 10.2 BLN USD, which exceeds the indicator of previous years by about 35%” noted the Prime Minister of Georgia.

According to Irakli Garibashvili, proceeds from tourism in July exceeded the results of 2019 by reaching 476 MLN USD, which is a record-high indicator.

The Prime Minister of Georgia noted that total revenues generated from travelers in January-July amounted to 1.618 BLN USD.

According to the Head of Government of Georgia, such trends in exports and tourism give us grounds to claim that high growth rate of economic performance will be maintained in actual data of July as well.

“You see that a great number of tourists are in the country and I wish to tell you that revenues generated from travelers, i.e. tourism in July actually exceeded the data of 2019 for the first time after the COVID pandemic. That indicates that the sector has recovered and not only equalized, but exceeded the data of 2019. We thus have a record-high indicator of revenues. Namely, proceeds from tourism amounted to 476 MLN USD, which is by 20% higher compared to the respective period of 2019, while exceeding 130% of 2021 data. Overall, revenues generated from travelers in January-July reached 1.618 BLN USD. That is, such trends in exports and tourism gives us grounds to claim that a high growth rate of economic performance will be maintained in actual data of July as well, which is very promising for us. Of course, it means more jobs and more income for our fellow citizens, with a reduction of poverty in the country” concluded Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia.
