Georgia and Türkiye Sign Cooperation Memorandums on Irrigation and Forestry
Georgia's Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, David Songulashvili, is on an official working visit to the Republic of Türkiye, where he met with Türkiye's Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, İbrahim Yumaklı.
During the meeting, the two sides signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fields of irrigation infrastructure and forestry management.
The MoU on cooperation in irrigation, drainage management, and irrigation infrastructure provides a framework for the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and technologies to improve irrigation and drainage systems and enhance the delivery of related services.
The MoU on forestry cooperation is intended to deepen collaboration between the two countries across a range of areas, including sustainable forest management practices, nursery and seedling production technologies, biodiversity conservation, protected area management, combating desertification and soil erosion, inventory of non-timber forest products, ecotourism, and forest cadastre development.
"Cooperation between our two countries continues to grow stronger. The memorandums signed with our Turkish counterparts are particularly important. Türkiye has extensive experience in these fields, and sharing this expertise will be highly valuable for Georgia," said David Songulashvili.
According to İbrahim Yumaklı, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Türkiye, cooperation between the two countries continues to expand.
"We are further strengthening our cooperation in crop production, pest management, irrigation, and related areas. Today, we signed two memorandums of understanding—one focusing on technical cooperation in water management, irrigation, and drainage, and the other on enhancing collaboration in the forestry sector. I am confident that both agreements will deliver successful outcomes. I would also like to thank Minister Songulashvili once again for participating in our forum and the high-level ministerial meeting," Yumaklı said.
As part of his visit to Türkiye, Minister Songulashvili will also participate in the ministerial conference "Reducing Post-Harvest Losses: Increasing Efficiency in the Food Supply Chain," where international leaders will discuss strategies for improving food security and agricultural sustainability.
