Georgia and Armenia Sign Memorandum to Strengthen Environmental and Hydrometeorological Cooperation

The Head of Georgia’s National Environmental Agency, Elene Gviniashvili, and the Director of Armenia’s Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center, Levon Azizyan, signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Yerevan, the capital of the Republic of Armenia. The agreement outlines cooperation in meteorology, hydrology, and other areas related to environmental monitoring.

During the working visit, the parties discussed strengthening institutional capacities through joint efforts, data sharing, and timely forecasting. Both sides also delivered presentations on their activities and initiatives.

“This memorandum with Armenia’s Hydrometeorology Service aims to improve coordination in the region, enhance responses to natural hazards, and enable efficient data exchange between our agencies,” said Elene Gviniashvili, Head of Georgia’s National Environmental Agency.

The agreement also envisions broader cooperation among South Caucasus countries in the areas of hydrometeorology, geology, and water resource management.

“We are genuinely pleased to partner with Georgia, especially on issues as critical as hydrometeorological and environmental safety. Today, we signed two important documents—a memorandum and a joint cooperation program—which outline concrete actions to strengthen the potential of both countries,” stated Levon Azizyan, Director of Armenia’s Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center.

Elene Gviniashvili was accompanied on the visit by the heads of Georgia’s hydrometeorology, geology, and environmental pollution monitoring departments.
