Georgia Advances Digital Land Governance with Development of National Land Information System
A working meeting was held at the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring to advance the development of software for Georgia’s Land Information System (LIS).
The meeting brought together representatives of the global IT services company RMSI, along with Giorgi Micheladze, Chairman of the Agency; Gizo Chelidze, Head of the Hydromelioration and Land Management Department of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture; and representatives from key departments of the Ministry and the Agency.
Participants discussed the functional design of the LIS, established preliminary timelines, and assessed the human and technical resources needed. They also explored the technical capabilities required to standardize and integrate land-related data currently stored across various agencies—an essential step toward improving data management and building a unified national information system.
Senthil Rajendran, a representative of RMSI, presented examples of similar digital systems the company has developed in Latin America, Asia, Europe, and EU member states, underscoring RMSI’s global experience in delivering large-scale geospatial solutions.
The development of the LIS is part of the Strengthening Agricultural Land Management and Monitoring subcomponent of the Georgia Sustainable Agriculture, Irrigation, and Land Project (GRAIL). Once complete, the LIS will serve as a comprehensive digital platform, integrating data on land resources, soil characteristics, and land use forms. It will function as a centralized hub, supporting the implementation of sustainable land management practices and enhancing transparency and decision-making in the land sector.
