George Jakhutashvili Becomes The New Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan in Georgia

In spite of the pandemic, Georgia and Kazakhstan continue to strengthen their cooperation. Mr. George Jakhutashvili was officially appointed as Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan in Georgia on September 8, 2020 and on November 5 of the current year, the Honorary Consular Institution of Kazakhstan opened solemnly in Rustavi. The institution has two consular districts: Kvemo Kartli and Mtskheta-Mtianeti.

Among many others, the functions of the Consular Institution of the Republic of Kazakhstan include:

  • Protecting the legal interests of Kazakh citizens (individuals and legal entities) in Georgia;
  • Promoting trade, economic, cultural and scientific relations, as well as the development and deepening of friendship between Georgia and Kazakhstan;

The Honorary Consular Institution was officially opened by the Honorary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Kazakhstan in Georgia Mr. Baurzhan Mukhamejanov, the Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan in Georgia Mr. George Jakhutashvili and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Mr. Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili. The ceremony was attended by the Governor of Kvemo Kartli, the Mayor of Rustavi, the First Deputy Mayor of Rustavi, the Deputy Governor of Mtskheta-Mtianeti and others.

The event was held in accordance with existing regulations imposed due to Covid19 pandemic. The opening was attended by only 10 people.

"Today is a special day, because the second honorary consulate of Kazakhstan was opened in Georgia. The opening of the representative office always indicates that there is a partnership and friendship between the two countries. We aim to open honorary consulates in all big cities of Georgia, since their activities will be beneficial for both countries. "The most important thing is that all this is done for our people, as it will promote business relations, cultural relations and, finally, will have a positive impact on the long-standing friendship between Kazakhstan and Georgia," - stated the Ambassador of Kazakhstan in Georgia, Mr. Baurzhan Mukhamejanov.

 "It is very important and effective to have honorary consulates of a friendly state in the country. As a rule, honorary consuls are influential and authoritative people, often businessmen who have their own plan for what direction to work. Basically, it is the deepening of trade and economic relations between the two countries, cooperation in cultural and social areas. "The Georgian people have an exceptional relationship with the Kazakh people, and I hope that the activities of the Honorary Consul will deepen these relations even further,"-stated Deputy Foreign Minister Mr. Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili.

"The major responsibilities of the Honorary Consulate are to protect the interests of the citizens of Kazakhstan and to promote economic, cultural and scientific relations between the two countries. This strategic mandate will significantly promote the deepening of Georgian-Kazakh cooperation. My commercial activity is to manage investments. Share of Kazakhstan in direct foreign investments in Georgia is quite high. The mission of my team is to promote the success of current projects, including in the direction of trade and tourism. Our goal is also to maximize the potential of Georgia and Kazakhstan by establishing new connections,'' - stated the Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan in Georgia, Mr. George Jakhutashvili.

Consular relations between the states are established by mutual agreement. The rights and responsibilities of the consulate are defined by the Vienna Convention on “Consular Relations”, according to which states admit that consular relations have always been established as a sign of close cooperation and friendship between the two countries.

Diplomatic relations between Georgia and the Republic of Kazakhstan have been established since 1992. There is close political and economic cooperation between the two countries. Kazakhstan is one of the largest trading partners of Georgia, especially noteworthy is cooperation in the fields of energy and transport.
