Gas Supplying to Europe via Georgia to Begin
Trans Adriatic Pipeline is ready for the commercial handling of natural gas. The system of gas-pipe is already connected with the network of Italian company Snam. This means, that gas transportation from Azerbaijan via Georgia and Turkey to Europe will begin in near future.
TAP is the last component of "Southern Gas Corridor", which is a continuation of Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum and TANAP. This pipeline should transport 10 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe annually, and its capacity enables it to double the volume.
The first target markets are Greece, Bulgaria, and Italy.
Georgia also benefits from the project. Apart from commercial benefits, this project puts the country in a very important position on the world energy map. Together with this, Georgia will be able to receive additional hundreds of millions of cubic meters of natural gas with preferential price.
"Until today, Georgia supplied gas to Turkey via transit, and Russian gas - to Armenia. Its main axis of the East and West was regional, and therefore, Georgia became an international, global player. Georgia has become a country which provides global security since the transit system of gas ensures energy security of Europe.", noted expert, Temur Gochitashvili.
