Enguri HPP Rehabilitation Finished; Georgia’s Biggest HPP to Resume Power Generation
Enguri HPP derivation channel rehabilitation has been finished prematurely and Georgia’s biggest hydropower plant will resume electricity supply to the domestic electricity grid earlier than planned.
According to the official statement of Enguri HPP management, the rehabilitation project has ended, hermetic gates have been closed and the channel must be filled with water, after which the HPP will be switched to the grid several days earlier than planned. “The fourth phase of Enguri HPP rehabilitation has ended successfully. Derivation channels’ all hermetic gates were closed today. The 3-month marathon has ended after many sleepless nights and titanic jobs. We have started filling the channel with water! In 3 hours the water level reached 5 members in the zone of the last gate. United We Win”, JSC EnergOn director-general Giorgi Mirtskhulava noted.
We remind you that Enguri HPP derivation channel rehabilitation works started on January 20 with the support of EBRD. The total value of the project is EUR 45 million, including EBRD loans amounted to EUR 38 million and EU grant constituted EUR 7 million.
