Economy Ministry: Railway Station will not Be Built at Kutaisi Airport

A new railway station will not be built for Kutaisi International airport, but the existing one will be rehabilitated, Deputy Economy Minister Akaki Saghirashvili told Channel 1 TV company.

„Kutaisi airport transportation capacity will rise four times. After new terminal construction, Kutaisi Airport will serve about 2 million passengers a year. As to connection of the airport with the railway station, the existing railway station located a 2-km way from the airport will be rehabilitated.

We will submit our visions to the Government in the near future. German company ARGM has already finished exploration works and we will arrange railway communication with the airport. The so-called shuttle will be appointed by airports. We have obtained promises from the Road Department that the road will be repaired and all trains moving from east to west will pass the existing railway station”, the Deputy Economy Minister noted.
