Draft of Georgia’s National Land Consolidation Strategy Document Completed – Ministry
Within the framework of the Land Consolidation Project, a working meeting was held at the National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring, according to information released by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.
The meeting was attended by Giorgi Misheladze, Chair of the Agency, representatives of the Land Reclamation and Land Management Policy Department of the Ministry, and specialists involved in the project.
An international expert from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Morten Hartvigsen, introduced the team of land consolidation consultants who will operate within the Agency’s structure.
Participants of the meeting reviewed the work carried out to date under the consolidation project and discussed the selection process for pilot villages. It was noted that the draft of Georgia’s National Land Consolidation Strategy document has been completed and is currently under review.
Land consolidation is a state-organized procedure carried out in agreement with landowners and land users, involving the reallocation or exchange of fragmented rural land plots. The process aims to reduce land fragmentation, increase agricultural productivity, improve access to infrastructure and land-use planning, and at the same time reduce costs for farmers.
The project is being implemented within the framework of the Georgia Resilient Agriculture, Irrigation and Land Project, financed by the World Bank.
