Davit Songulashvili: “The Gurjaani Wine Festival has been held since 2017, which means it has already become a tradition and is now the largest wine festival in Georgia”
On 11 October, Gurjaani hosted the Gurjaani Wine Festival for the ninth time, featuring 200 different wines produced by hundreds of companies.
The event was attended by the Prime Minister of Georgia, members of the government, and representatives of the legislative body.
“The Gurjaani Wine Festival has been held since 2017, which means it has already become a tradition — on the second Saturday of October, Gurjaani welcomes thousands of guests. This is a special day not only for Kakheti, but for all of Georgia. It is an opportunity for small and medium wineries and winemakers to present their wines to a wide audience; it is an opportunity to sign business contracts — and there have been many such cases, which makes the festival even more valuable for participants.
As you know, last year the festival hosted more than 30,000 visitors, and this year we are expecting even more. The scale is growing every year. We now have more than 500 participants, which once again highlights the importance of the festival. I wish success to the Gurjaani Wine Festival, the municipality and the region. The Gurjaani Wine Festival is the largest wine festival in Georgia,”
said the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Davit Songulashvili.
The Minister toured the festival stands and met with wine producers.
The purpose of the event is to promote wine tourism, raise awareness of qvevri wine as an element of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage, and support the development of wines with appellation of origin.
The festival featured wines from both large and small wineries, traditional Georgian dishes, handmade crafts, and a cultural programme.
Since 2022, the festival has become an official partner of the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) with the support of the National Wine Agency.
