David Songulashvili Visits Smart Feed Plant to Highlight Importance of Local Agricultural Production
Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture David Songulashvili visited the operations of Smart Feed’s combined feed plant in the village of Gamjarvega, Gardabani Municipality.
According to the Minister, state funding for the processing sector plays a crucial role in supporting local production:
“Alongside the development of livestock and poultry farming, there is growing demand for agricultural feed. It is essential that local production meets this demand to the fullest extent possible. Expanding production increases employment and generates local products, which are the foundation of a stronger national economy,” said David Songulashvili.
Smart Feed produces various types of combined feed for livestock and poultry. The company is a beneficiary of the Rural Development Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture. In 2023, Smart Feed invested 1.5 million GEL to establish the feed production facility, including 400,000 GEL from the Co-financing Program for Processing and Storage Enterprises and 700,000 GEL from the Preferential Agrocredit program.
The enterprise’s production capacity is 1,400 tons of combined feed per month, with current output at 700 tons. All products are sold on the local market, and the facility employs 20 people.
With support from the Rural Development Agency’s technical assistance program, the enterprise implemented the ISO 22000 international food safety standard.
Notably, under the Preferential Agrocredit Project, 14 agroloans totaling 10.2 million GEL have been issued in the Kvemo Kartli region to support the creation of combined feed enterprises, with state co-financing exceeding 2.8 million GEL.
Minister Songulashvili was accompanied by Deputy Minister Lasha Dolidze and State Representative in the Kvemo Kartli region, Levan Kharabadze.
