The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, David Songulashvili, met with the Ambassador of Japan to Georgia, H.E. Ishizuka Hideki.
The meeting focused on ongoing and future cooperation between the two countries in the fields of agriculture and environmental protection.
Minister Songulashvili highlighted several successful joint projects and emphasized the vital role of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in their implementation. He thanked the Ambassador for Japan’s long-standing support, underscoring the importance of sharing Japanese experience and knowledge, particularly in bringing modern technologies into Georgia.
Special attention was given to supporting tea production, which will enable farmers and producers to increase both the quality and quantity of their output. The Minister also touched on the growing demand for Georgian wine in the Japanese market and the importance of promoting Georgian wine more actively in Japan.
The parties also discussed the significance of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) as a framework for bilateral cooperation. Georgia is actively working with Japan to establish an emissions trading scheme under the JCM, aimed at introducing advanced decarbonization technologies, systems, services, and infrastructure.
Ambassador Ishizuka noted that the partnership between Japan and Georgia is both active and successful. He reaffirmed Japan’s readiness to further strengthen cooperation through knowledge-sharing, technical assistance, and financial support.
The meeting at the Ministry was also attended by Deputy Minister Lasha Dolidze and heads of relevant departments.
