Customs Introduce a Robot as a New Employee

At the beginning of March, a new employee - a robot - will appear at customs.

It will be a robot that will receive the documents, scan them, print them, and also read and process the ID card data to identify the person. Also, the robot function will be integration with software robots and other database as well. The goal of automating customs processes using artificial intelligence and robotics technology is to provide a high standard of modern service.

Vladimir Khundadze, Deputy Head of the Revenue Service, spoke about the issue in the "Business Rustavi 2" program.

"We assume that at the end of February, at the beginning of March, the robot will be able to start working. At the first stage, the robot will be able to automatically complete a large part of the export declarations. In fact, it will physically receive the documents and return the customs-cleared export declaration to the payer in 2 minutes," said Vladimir Khundadze.

It should be noted that the economic zone of electronic clearance has been functioning in the customs department for 4 months. Recently, almost all fields are moving to a digital platform completely or partially, customs is no exception, where they believe that digitalization will improve the effective work of customs control.

"More than 90% of services in the Revenue Service are electronic. However, we still tried to create a virtual electronic clearance zone in the customs department. That is, where all electronic services would gather. Customs clearance of cargo is only possible electronically. Company representatives electronically send documents and electronic waybills. The employee declares these documents. Accordingly, the goods are cleared in such a way that the representative of the company does not need to come to the place. This way, the payer saves time and financial resources," said Khundadze.
