Container Shipments Increased by 34%

Georgian Railway has delivered 64,000 containers (TEU) in the 10 months of 2019, which is a record figure. This data is 34% more than the same period last year and is double compared to 2016 data.

The total volume of freight transported by the Georgian Railways this year, excluding crude oil, is 8,57 million tons, which is 7% more than in 2018.

If in the past years the Georgian Railways transported mostly raw materials - oil, minerals, wheat or other commodities, shipments of processed production containers are growing nowadays.

According to the separate months of 2019, the railway had the highest load in October, when the total amount of freight exceeded 1 million tons. In the same period of 2018, 825 thousand tons of cargo were transported.
