Construction of Animal Shelter in Gurjaani Municipality Completed

 The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure has completed the construction of an animal shelter in Gurjaani. The project was funded by the Government of Georgia and its cost amounted to 1.9 million GEL.

Gurjaani Animal Shelter isnow located in the fenced area and equipped with administrative and quarantine buildings, a veterinary clinic, a laboratory, open-air cage and all other necessary infrastructure. In addition, there will be a 24-hour call center in the shelter.

The functions of the shelter will include measures to determine the owner of the animal or to find a new one, to conduct information campaigns for the care of animals together with animal protection organizations.

The problem of the abundance of homeless animals in the Kakheti region is especially acute. The risk of spreading diseases and epidemics in municipalities is high, and people get also bitten. Upon completion of the project, the problem of stray animals will be fully resolved.
