"Climate Change Is an Everyday Reality That Demands Action" – Songulashvili

Georgian Minister of Environment and Agriculture Davit Songulashvili, as part of his working visit to Azerbaijan, participated in the international conference "Agriculture: Mobilizing Countries for Nature." The Minister delivered remarks during a panel discussion focused on climate change.

Speaking at the panel “The World and Baku after COP29: Achievements, Prospects and Opportunities in the Field of Climate Change,” Songulashvili highlighted the global urgency of addressing climate change and underscored the agricultural sector’s critical role in mitigation and adaptation efforts.

He expressed his gratitude to the hosts of the 2024 UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) for their organizational efforts and commitment to placing climate change at the forefront of the global agenda.

“Climate change affects us all. It is urgent that countries work together at both the policy and practical levels. Georgia is ready to continue cooperation with partners, especially through platforms such as COP and similar initiatives. Climate change is not a theoretical challenge – it is an everyday reality that requires concrete steps. Georgia is ready to take these steps both domestically and internationally,” Songulashvili stated.

The Minister also welcomed the key outcomes of COP29, including commitments by developed nations to increase climate financing, promote investment in green technologies, and advance emissions trading systems.

The conference gathered high-level representatives from multiple countries and aimed to promote nature-based agricultural practices, encourage climate-resilient standards, and bolster international cooperation in the fight against climate change.

Alongside Minister Songulashvili, Georgia was represented by Deputy Minister Lasha Dolidze and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Zurab Pataradze.
