“Car Imports Are Increasing, Which Means More Harmful Emissions — This Is a Challenge That Requires a Response” – Nino Tandilashvili

According to a government decree, starting April 1, the import, initial registration, and temporary registration of M1 category vehicles older than six years will be prohibited in Georgia.

As First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Nino Tandilashvili noted, the country is facing significant air pollution caused by vehicle exhaust and harmful emissions from motor vehicles.

“Polluted air, which we breathe, negatively affects our health, and children are among the most vulnerable groups. Here, as a society, we must agree that when it comes to our health and the health of our children, restrictions are necessary,” stated Nino Tandilashvili.

It is noteworthy that data on the state of atmospheric air quality is publicly available to all interested parties on the air quality portal: https://air.gov.ge. In addition, the LEPL National Environmental Agency publishes annual reports titled “Annual Report on Atmospheric Air Pollution in the Territory of Georgia” and bulletins “Brief Overview of Environmental Pollution in Georgia” on its official website, where air quality data can be accessed by month and by city: https://nea.gov.ge.
