Bulgaria and Georgia Discuss Cooperation in Transport and Communications

The rich potential of cooperation exists between Georgia and Bulgaria, especially in the areas of transport and communications.

Full deployment of this potential in the Black Sea neighborhood acquires great importance. It was noted at the meeting between the Prime Ministers of Georgia and Republic of Bulgaria held within the scope of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos today.

Giorgi Gakharia and Boyko Borisov positively referred to the ferry transportation services between the marine ports of Georgia and Bulgaria, thereby stressing the need of extending the current transport links. Bilateral economic relations have been regarded as productive.

It was noted that Bulgaria has been in Top 10 Trading Partners of Georgia in recent years, though a greater potential is believed to exist towards this end.

A high level of current cooperation within the international multilateral formats was viewed as a positive development at the meeting.

Discussions were also related to the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration, grave violations of humanitarian conditions witnessed at the occupied territories of the country and Peace Policy of the Government of Georgia.

Prime Minister expressed gratitude to his Bulgarian colleague for the solid support of territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia, as well as for an active engagement of Bulgaria in the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM).

Boyko Borisov was cordially invited to Georgia by his counterpart. Meeting was attended by Ivane Matchavariani, Minister of Finance of Georgia and Irakli Chikovani, Adviser to the Prime Minister of Georgia on Foreign Affairs.
