Annual Inflation Rate Surges to 6.9%
The month of April recorded a 0.9% rise in monthly inflation rate, a 6.9% rise in annual inflation rate and a 4.6% growth in base inflation rate.
At the same time, the annual inflation rate without tobacco made up 4.1%, Geostat, the national statistics service of Georgia reports.
The following groups have affected the monthly inflation rate:
Food and soft drinks - the group recorded a 3% growth and its effect onto the monthly rate made up 1.01%. Prices rose in the following subgroups: fruit and grapes (17.7%), vegetables and garden plants (7.1%), fish products (6.2%), coffee, tea and cocoa (4.4%), sugar, jam and other confectioneries (3%), bread and pastry (1.6%), meat and meat products (1.2%), vegetable oil and fat (0.9%). At the same time, prices declined on milk, cheese and eggs (-0.3%),
Transport - The group recorded a 3% slowdown with a -0.36% effect on the whole index. Prices shrank on personal transport exploitation (-3.8%).
As for the annual inflation rate formation:
Food and soft drinks – the group recorded a 161% upturn with a 5.04% effect. Prices rose in the following subgroups: fruit and grapes (45.4%), milk, cheese and eggs (23.2%), sugar, jams and other sweets (16.95%), meat and meat products (15%), fish products (14.9%), vegetable and garden plants (14.1%), vegetable oil and fat (11%), mineral and spring waters, soft drinks and natural juices (10%), Coffee, tea and cocoa (10%), bread and pastry (8.4%).
Healthcare – prices rose by 4.9% with a 0.39% effect on the annual index. Prices rose in subgroups of medical products, equipment and deices (up 8.4%) and outpatient medical services (4.4%).
